When Death Occurs

What to do First
Perhaps one of the most unsettling things that can happen to anyone is finding a body, especially a loved one, who has passed. Regardless of your certainty about whether the body is dead or alive, it is best to contact emergency services, and allow professionals to get involved. From there the body can be removed from the premises and preserved for their final ceremony and final disposition.

Death at Home
When a natural death occurs at the home, it is proper to contact the funeral home after a health care professional has had an opportunity to examine the body. You will not need to discuss any part of the funeral at this point. We will assist you in the removal of the body as well storage, until the details can be worked out.
Death at a health institution
Healthcare facilities are generally prepared to deal with a death. Should death occur at one of these facilities, you can assume that the body will be preserved until removal. Please contact us and we work with the facility to move the body to our location.
Death Requiring Transportation
An often overlooked possibility is that a death might occur out of city, state or even country. We are always there to help you should this occur. Just make sure you can get as much information about the location and the contact information of those who are holding the body. It is an unfortunate aspect, but when a death occurs away from home, particularly when it is out of the country, the cost can be significant. There are actually insurance companies that will protect you from this unforeseen cost.
